That's weird, because getting a tattoo is so not a Jewish thing to do!...

Actually, it's becoming popular among Jews, especially in American and, from what I've been told, among the IDF in Israel. That said, it is strictly forbidden in Torah! But times change and prohibitions are reconsidered. I've even heard rabbis - granted, not orthodox rabbis - shrug off tattoos. It's certainly not desired among contemporary religious Jews, but I don't believe most American Jewish cemeteries would reject you if you had a tattoo.
