Arabic illustration, Devils

Hexagram with a human figure and devils appears on an illustration from the 14th century C.E. Image was copied from Wikimedia Commons, entry: Category: Kitab al-Bulhan (Book of Wonders, MS. Bodl. Or. 133 manuscript, uploaded by: “Peacay”.

This illustration is included in a collection of Arabic illustration dealing with astrology, astronomy and geomancy. The book was compiled by Abd al-Hasan Al-Isfahani. I reckon, based on the context, that this Hexagram represents a star or a planet.

65th anniversary of the Jewish Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

In 2008 the Bank of Poland issued this coin to commemorate 65th anniversary of the Jewish Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. On the coin we see a Magen David (Yellow Badge) in the shape of barbed wire (which is a well known motif in commemorating the Holocaust) and a girl wearing a beret.

Another coin in this series shows another Magen  David (Yellow Badge) against a brick wall. Courtesy of Gideon from “collect”, the Israeli collectors’ forum.

Big Smoke

Artist Sabina Saad spent many years in Italy before she came to Israel.  In Italian the comics “balloons” are called FUMETTO, which means small smoke, but Jews in the holocaust went to Heaven in a Big Smoke. There are no words in these “balloons” since Jewish victims’ voices were not heard at that time, and since many Jewish survivors stopped believing in God.

Moroccan local stamp from 1895

Philatelist Dr Claude Wainstain from France sent me this 1895 Magen David on a postal stamp (and other stamps from the same period) and wrote the following:

The Moroccan local stamp that is shown o your blog (April 6 2008, "rare stamp from Tetouan') was on use by one of the 20 local postage services, of which 19 where created by Jews. This one was created in March 1896 by Josue Benchimol, from Tetuan to

Chaouen (70 km). There are two major symbols on this stamp, the six-points star and the moon crescent with a star, and it's difficult not to imagine that they symbolize both religions.

Another local post was created in 1895 by Aaron Cohen from Tanger to

Arcila (50 km), with a Magen David.

Another Hexagram

A hexagram appears on David Edwards’ Mystical Cube

Copyright: David Edwards, who wrote to me:

The photo is of a carving I made when I was involved with the Order of the Cubic Stone, a teaching esoteric group I helped found in the 1960s. Each side portrays 1 of the elements with the hexagram on top representing in this instance spirit. We used a full size altar in a similar style to this, but on a base. The actual cube in the photo has each size approximately 2" long.

Tags: Order of the cubic stone, Altar, Cubic Stone, Magic, Enochian, John Dee, Dare to Make Magic, Seal of Solomon , Hexagram. See: www.davidfedwards.co.uk

The name hexagram seems unsuccessful because it can be applied not only to the six-pointed star but also to the cube, which is also a drawing (“gram” in Greek) of six (“hex” in Greek).

Fiery Water

From Wikipedia entry “Fire (classical element)” uploaded by Bryan Derksen
In alchemy the triangle that points up is the symbol of fire while the triangle that points down is the symbol of water

From Wikipedia entry “water (classical element)” uploaded by Bryan Derksen
Fire and water (needless to say) are opposites. In the hexagram they interpenetrate and together they represent the unity of the opposites or (in alchemy)- the fiery water -that’s why hexagrams were drawn on the signs above shops that sold brandy until about hundred years ago.

Plinius explained the word "pyramid" as coming from the Greek root PYR (Fire). Pyramid is comprised from triangles pointing up to the sun.

1794 Micrography & Geometry

This is one of the most exiting Stars of David I’ve ever seen.

It is made from micrographic Hebrew letters of verses from The Song of Songs by Baruch Ben Shmariahu (Shir_Brest_1794). In addition, It expresses the tight connection of the six-pointed star to geometry.

Micrography is a unique Jewish art which has been developed in Tiberias in the 9th century C.E

Hourglasses

Michael Espiritu from the Philippines sent me the following Star of David interpretation:

There are two hourglasses X X in star of David. The Cross of Christ is an ARROW pointing 12 of the clock. Father, Son and Holy Spirit are clock arrows become "one" at 12:00 o'clock. So, the two hourglasses have both 12 hour time spans which illustrate below. X X is also 88, number of constellations and also 4 whirling wheels in Ezekiel 10:13. If you add numbers from top to bottom or from left to right the sum will be 14 only. The number 14 refers to 14 generations of Israel in Matthew 1:17

Matthew 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

The 12 hour in "AM" are divided in to two, 6 hour darkness (12:00AM to 6:00AM) and 6 hour in light (6:00AM to 12:00PM)
The main direction of star of David is UP and DOWN, so, if you add 1 and 6; 2 and 5; 3 and 4 the sum is 7 which is number of God.

1+2+3+4+5+6=21x4=84.
In Luke 10:1 sometimes 72 others. 72 others plus 12 original equals 84 apostles.
84/12=7 (7years/1week of years)
21x2=42/12=3.5 (3 1/2 years)

Checkered. There are four imaginary star of David. Look at the two clockwised numbers; 1, 3 and 5 of AM have triangle that points up; 1, 3 and 5 of PM have triangle that points down. Darkness of AM and PM are different.
Cross is an addition sign.

Below, if you add numbers from top to bottom or from left to right, the sum is always "10" even when each group revolved clockwise and counter clockwise.

10+10+10+10=40

Meaning of Number 40

# Forty days to test a child of God. During this time no food or drink is eaten.

* Forty weeks for a child to be in the womb. The ideal time for a birth. Forty periods of time is the ideal time for any testing before a birth of a child or a nation can be expected.
* Jesus fasted and was tempted in the wilderness. (Matthew 4: 2; Mark 1: 13; Luke 4: 2)
* Jesus was on the earth for forty days after His resurrection. (Acts 1: 3)
* Joshua searched the land 40 days (Numbers 14: 34). Joshua 14: 7 He was 40 years old.
* Moses was in the presence of God when he received the ten commandments. (Exodus 24: 18; 34: 28) He lived to be 120 years old. He spent 40 years as an Egyptian prince, 40 years as a shepherd and the last 40 years in the exodus.
* Elijah fasted after he ran away from persecution. He lived forty days on the strength of the bread and water that he received from an angel. (1 Kings 19: 8)
* Noah was in the protection of God while it rained forty days and nights. (Genesis 7: 12)
* Forty lashes were the maximum punishment. Deuteronomy 25: 3
* Ezekiel 4: 6; Ezekiel 29: 11
* The kings chosen by God reigned for forty years. David, Solomon.
* A woman was unclean for 40 days (7 + 33) after the birth of a son. (Leviticus 12)

# National. Forty years for a rebellious generation after they have rejected a personal visit from God.

* Israel wandered in the desert before they entered the Promised Land. (Numbers 32: 13)
* Forty years after Christ was rejected and crucified (31 AD), the temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.
* Israel ate manna forty years (Exodus 16: 35)
* Judges 13: 1. Israel subdued by the Philistines forty years.
* 1 Kings 2: 11. And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.

Here's how "10" relates to star of David:

1 Kings 11:35 But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it to you, even ten tribes.
Note:

Dr. Asher Eder told me that the Gematria for 14 is David (dalet=4 +vav=6 + dalet =4)

The Martinist Hexagram

Illustration of The Martinist Hexagram is copied from Wikipedia entry Martinism

Martinism is a sort of mystical Christianity, which was founded in the 18th Century in France by Gerard Encausse.

The Hexagram represents the Old Testament, the cross - the New Testament, and the circle represents the gnostic Ouroborus, the serpent which swallows its own tail.

Bulgarian hexagrams

Double Trines

I asked Israeli astrology expert Khoschen-Klein Monius about appearances of the Star of David symbol in astrology and he answered that astrologers speak about Double Trines (aspects) that form this symbol on the astrological map. (Trines= equilateral triangles).

Then I Googled “Double Trines” and found out that in November 8-9, 2003, there was a lunar eclipse along with a configuration of 6 planets creating a Star of David formed by the two Grand Trines (Double Trines).

It sounds quite interesting to find out if that date, November 8-9, 2003, changed someone’s personal course of life, or if it changed the global course of life – what do you think?

Hexagrams Representing Zodiac Signs

Picture of Mary with the twelve zodiac signs (hexagrams) is courtesy of “tpol33” from Flickr who shot it at the Cathedral of Cologne, Germany. The Statue is called Virgo Immaculata and it was made in 1749. This is the first instance of hexagrams representing zodiac signs that I stumbled upon.

It seems like an illustration of Revelation Chapter 12:

1 A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman

2 clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Hexagram with Planet Glyphs

The six glyphs of the planets surround the Sun; each glyph occupies another triangle of a hexagram. Picture is from Opus Medico-Chymicum, an alchemy book by Johann Daniel Mylius published in 1618. The usage of the six-pointed star to represent the planets is a new discovery for me, and I’ll appreciate it if readers could refer me to articles about this subject, or to other pictures that show this kind of usage.

I reckon that the planets in this illustration represent the days of the week, while the zodiac signs represent the months:

  1. Sun Day
  2. Moon Day
  3. Mars day
  4. Mercuri day
  5. Jupiter's day
  6. Venus Day
  7. Saturn day

Hexagrams Represent Planets-1

It seems that using hexagrams to represent the planets was a conventional theme for the 17th century illustrators of alchemical books.

Hexagrams with White Lily

Hexagrams (with white lily, fleur de lis) are engraved on a manhole in Freiburg , Germany. Photo was shot by Zako and all rights are reserved to him. The connection between the six-pointed star and the white lily is dominant in Uri Ofir's theory about the Jewish origin of the Star of David, but here we see a clear Christian connection.

Six Hexagrams and Twelve Zodiacal Signs

6 hexagrams and 12 zodiacal signs and glyphs appear on a mosaic ceiling at Greenwich Town Hall, London, England, right above the main door. It is not clear what these hexagrams are doing there and if the number six has a certain meaning. I can only guess that it has to do with the influence of alchemy. Anyhow it’s a splendid contribution to my new research about the hexagram and the Zodiac.
