Memory Plate

Memory Plate Jewish StarPhoto is courtesy of "Parke"
who published it on Flickr and wrote to me:
This is inside the Anshei Minsk Synagogue in Kensington Market in downtown Toronto. The Minsk is an operating orthodox synagogue today.
I visted during Doors Open Toronto, during which many places open their doors to the general public. I took this photo on the Sabbath (Saturday), which I really shouldn't have.

The hexagonal frame of the Star of David is used sometimes to store "important Jewish things" like the name of God, Jerusalem, Zion, and in this case for a memory plate. Some day I'll publish a list of all the "important Jewish things" I found inside this frame...

Masonic Star of David

Hexagram in a Masonic Temple in Philadelphia among many other Masonic symbols. I guess it appears here because Free Masons relate themselves to King Solomon. The hexagram was called Solomon's Seal for a few hundred years before it got the name Star of David...

Full and Empty

"Full" small Star of David inside a larger ordinary "empty" Star of David (where the triangles are seen clearly) inside a circle on a gravestone in St. Marx (Friedhof) cemetery in Vienna, which was used from 1784 until 1874

High Is Low

The highest point of the inner colorful Star of David indicates the lowest point of the outer white Hexagram. This is so poetic...
Photo is courtesy of "Liutao" from Flickr, who shot it in China. It seems that there is no connection to Judaism...

Chinese Checkers

Trying to define the Star of David by its shape alone is not enough - even though the Star of David is a hexagram not every hexagram is a Star of David. This is a source of confusion for many people who see it on Indian temples, or as sheriffs' badges, or as Chinese checkers etc.

Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park

Photo is courtesy of "sfsweetness" who published it on Flickr under the title "Lava Star of David"; I don't agree with this title since the lava stones arranged in the shape of a six pointed hexagram has nothing to do with the Jewish meaning or theJewish name of this shape. To be on the safe side it could have been a corect title if it read: "Lava in the shape of Star of David"...
"sfsweetness" wrote to me:

This was taken at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park on the Halema'uma'u Trail.

Modern Mosaic

It looks old and Jewish but it is Modern Mosaic with artistic stars.
Photo is courtesy of Austin Sage who published it on Flickr and wrote to me:
I just thought it was a pretty mosaic design in a garden here in Austin.
