Israel 60 logo in Arabic

See the Israel 60 logo in Arabic at the top of our Prime Minister's office web page. It makes the impression that an Arab boy is playing joyously with a blue ribbon, celebrating Israel’s Independence…

I’d like to take a photo of this logo – but where can I find it? Is anybody using it, or is it a joke?

The truth is that the six-pointed star belongs to the Muslims not less than to the Jews, since the beginning of Islam until today, but it has a different name: Solomon’s seal. After the founding of Israel the six-pointed star became so identified with Israel that Arabs began erasing their six-pointed stars, as long as they could take them off without collapsing their Mosques...

Provocative Logo

Star of David shape of the Temple Mount

The Logo of the Temple Mount Movement shows the Temple Mount without the Mosques, and the Hebrew words (see bold letters), which are taken from the Book of Numbers 13:30 call for action:

Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will surely overcome it."

The message of the logo along with the caption provokes to remove the Mosques from the Temple Mount.

The Star of David shape of the Temple Mount appeared already in E.M. Lilien’s Ex Libris made for Prof. Martin Buber, only there the Mosques appear prominently.

The Heart of the Nation

flag, the Star of David heart

The Hebrew words on the sticker says: "the heart boulevards of the nation". Even though I try to skip Israeli flag photos, since they show an independent symbol, I decided to include this one because it combines three symbols: the flag, the Star of David, and the heart. The complete message is: patriotism, love of one’s country.

Front of Red Magen David Building, Ashdod, Israel

Star of David is red

Usually I don’t publish photos of Red Magen David, since I focus on the Star of David and the Red Version is a separate symbol, but this time I couldn’t stop myself because the design is so special. In this case not only the Star of David is red – the whole building is RED. It might influence other architects to design Blue Buildings to fit the color of our national emblem.

We see in it a tree, which looks like a prophet, holding in its arms an incomplete Magen David, which hints to the broken tables of the covenant. In the background we see a calf head- hinting to the Golden Calf.

Title: Marriage in Black

Artist’s Caption: My parents’ wedding on 14.5.1944, in the midst of WWII, in a synagogue in Budapest, Hungary. There was a rumor that young academic Jews will not be taken to forced labor camps if they marry, and since my father just finished his PhD in chemistry and since he and my mother were together for five years they decided to get married quickly.

Daniela Klauzner was a biologist until she started 11 years a go to create art. She lives in Natania.

Head Tattoo

British singer Boy George got a huge Head Tattoo after he started to study the Kabbalah. He also has a cross on his right shoulder, and a lotus flower on the back of his head.

The problem of Jews with Tattoos

On a web page titled Jews with Tattoos there are a few Stars of David.

Rabbi George (Gershom) Barnard of Northern Hills Synagogue wrote that:

In recent years, both the Reform and Conservative movements have had to address the issue, and both of them forbid tattooing.

An interesting point is raised on:

http://www.jordanelgrably.com/inyourfaith.html

Kaufman explains… that "a majority of young Jews have tattoos, ear-rings, nose-rings--this is a fact of life today. Ask any parent. So it hit me suddenly, of what use is this halachic law if it's going to exclude an entire generation from Jewish ceremony and tradition?"

From the comments at his Flickr page: "altefeigele" says:

The Tat suggests to me that the American Eagle is grabbing the Star of David in its talons and is prepared to fly with it somewhere, probably to the Eagle's nest to feed its chicks.

Alan Miller answers:

The guy is American and told me he got the tattoo soon after September 11th, 2001. It could be Pres. Bush getting his hands on Israel after his visit. Or the Israeli police getting their talons in Prime Minister Olmert. But I'll go with the guy's explanation.

Title: Heavy Yellow Holocaust Star

Artist’s Caption: I wanted to express the heavy feeling that the Yellow Holocaust Star evokes. Above: six candle holder for the 6,000,000

The artist’s parents were East European Jews who survived the Holocaust.

The usage of Death camps’ uniform stripes is quite frequent in the artistic treatment of the Yellow Holocaust Star, and for some of the artists it is connected to the coat of many colors Jacob gave to Joseph.

Synonymic Symbols

Herzl, meaning, Zionism, Tattoo Star of DavidMap of Israel is a separare symbol, meaning more or less the same as the Star of David. I call these symbols "synonymic symbols" and there's a whole family of them: Herzl, Western Wall, Menorah, Ten Commandments, lions, the word Zion, Srulik... These symbols tend to appear in pairs and in triads in order to strengthen their mutual message.

Technique: Photo processed in Photoshop and printed on canvas.

Title: Mother, life is infinite

Artist’s Caption: sunrise over the Dead Sea, and the Bulgarian equivalent of the yellow badge – the yellow button. The button belonged to my mother who lived in Bulgaria during WWII. She went to visit her husband. The train she was on was full with Germans. She was afraid that the button might clearly indicate that she's a Jewess and tore it off.

The Dead Sea along with Holocaust memories makes an interesting combination: it’s name reminds us of the 6,000,000, and that it is the lowest place in the world hints to the Nazi’s lowest MORAL place in the history of the world.

Thanks For Writing About My Project

Ruth Abrams wrote on Mar 24th, 2008 in Interfaith Family under the title

Web 2.0 Gives Us a Look At Some Jewish Art:

Among others, I’ve been following an Israeli photographer and blogger, Ze’ev Barkan, who posts and links to images of the Star of David. I was thinking about how many little Jewish children, especially those who are hungry for more Jewish knowledge, will look for “Jewish stars” wherever they can find them. It’s a way of feeling visible as a Jew in a society that might not see Jews. Sometimes the stars in Ze’ev’s flickr.com set overlap with images from other cultures, which is great for use on our site, where we celebrate interfaith families’ varied ways of sharing of heritage and history from both sides of their families.

Thanks Ruth, for your warm words about my project- you made my day!
